Sending your child to a university-based summer programme is a decision that involves trust and responsibility. At LUMS, we take this seriously. Our experienced team ensures students receive academic, social, and personal support throughout their stay. This guide addresses common questions about accommodation, supervision, safety, and the overall experience at the Summer Programme. We welcome conversations to address specific concerns and help make your child's summer at LUMS safe, enriching, and memorable.
Why Attend Our Summer Programme
The LUMS Summer Programme combines rigorous academics with personal growth. Over the three-week programme, students often arrive curious and sometimes hesitant, gradually embracing new ideas, connecting with peers, and building confidence. Exploring quiet campus corridors, gathering at the khokha, and participating in interactive sessions with faculty and mentors provide an immersive, collaborative learning experience.
During the monsoon season, as the regular academic year comes to an end, the campus takes on a calm, reflective energy. Summer School students inhabit this space fully, discovering corners of the university that feel theirs for the season. They engage in hands-on sessions, collaborate on projects, and connect closely with instructors in ways rarely possible during the busy academic year. The diversity of students from different cities, schools, and backgrounds enriches discussions, fosters new perspectives, and inspires curiosity.
Set against Lahore's vibrant cultural and literary backdrop, the programme offers more than academics - it's a space for creativity, self-discovery, and personal growth. By the end of their stay, students leave LUMS refreshed, inspired, and more open-hearted, carrying memories of rain-scented gardens, lively debates, laughter-filled hallways, and a lasting love of learning.
Campus Supervision & Parental Access
The LUMS campus is secure and structured to support student learning, independence, and well-being. Parents are not allowed to stay on campus. Parents must drop off and pick up day scholars, including those in Secondary School, Pre-College, and Young Learners Programmes, at designated times.
Students are supervised at all times by the Summer School Team, instructors, and, when applicable, hostel wardens and night monitors. This supervision ensures students can explore, learn, and interact safely while developing personal responsibility.
Official Communication & Parental Involvement
Email: All formal communication, including schedules, announcements, and updates, is sent as mentioned earlier.
WhatsApp Groups:
Secondary & Pre-College Students: Whatsapp groups for class and activity updates.
Young Learners Programme: Dedicated WhatsApp group for parents.
Parents and students should check for updates regularly to stay informed of any changes.
Student Responsibility & Conduct
Students must act responsibly and respect the campus, fellow students, and staff. Consequences for violations may include withholding programme certificates, fines, or retaining the refundable security fee, depending on the incident.
Key points include:
Property: Damage to university property may result in fines or withholding of the security deposit, particularly for residential students.
Campus Rules: Students must adhere to curfew times, remain on campus unless written parental permission has been submitted to the programme team, and follow staff instructions.
Prohibited Behaviour: Smoking, vaping, bullying, harassment, and illegal drug use are strictly prohibited.
These measures maintain a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment while encouraging independence and growth, especially for on-campus students.
